Homework for the week will be posted on this website as it is developed. I cannot post homework more than a week and a half in advance as I will adjust my schedule to meet the needs of the learners in my classroom. Should students grasp a concept quickly, less time will be devoted to covering the subject will be required, and vice versa.
The main texts that will be used this year are EnVision Math, Rigby Literacy by Design, MacMillan/McGraw-Hill Langauge Arts, and United States: Adventure in Time and Place by McGraw Hill and the National Geographic Society. I will be using numerous other resources throughout the year as well to supplement, including, but not limited to, novels and picture books, primary documents, educational videos, and Internet sources. Supplies Please provide your students with enough pencils, notebooks, and loose-leaf paper adequate to make it through each day as well as a two-pocket folder that will act as the home-to-school paper protector. One box of tissues and one container of disinfectant wipes per pupil would also be greatly appreciated. Anything else (pencil boxes, binders, notebooks, etc) you would like is welcome but I will provide all other classroom supplies that I will be requiring the students to use for various activities as needed.
My goal is that each student achieve mastery in every subject. End-of-unit examinations will be taken after the majority of the students are ready to demonstrate this level of comprehension. If I have misjudged and the majority of students have not achieved my desired level of mastery, I will reteach and allow another attempt, or extra credit, whether it be as a whole class re-take or as an optional take-home assignment for those students wishing to raise their grades. I am less concerned with “straight A” grades and more concerned that every student make an effort and make great gains this school year.
