Welcome to Japanese!
Course Objectives
- Students will be able to create a strong foundation of the Japanese language in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Students will be able to rediscover their own language and culture through studying the Japanese language and culture.
- Students will be able to better understand, and be respectful of, the Japanese people and culture.
Procedures
These are some of the procedures that will be used in the classroom to invite a fun and enjoyable learning environment
- Be Prepared: The teacher will come prepared and ready to instruct the students when class begins and similarly the students will come to class with materials ready when class begins.
- Be Polite: The teacher will be polite to each student and similarly the students will be polite to each student and the teacher. This involves 3 categories: language, discussions, and environment. (1) The teacher and students will use appropriate language (no swearing, rude, racist, sexual, and/or inappropriate comments). (2) Both the teacher and students will show politeness when the teacher and/or a student is talking (no interrupting and no side conversations). (3) The teacher and students will respect the classroom environment (not leaving the classroom a mess, picking up their trash, and no shouting out answers--unless discussed before hand).
- Have Fun: This class should be fun! The teacher and students should engage in fun and interesting conversations in English and Japanese. This class is NOT a lecture. Students are encouraged to ask questions and give comments and concerns (as long as they are appropriate). Let’s have fun!
