Linda Mazurkiewicz

I would like to welcome all my students and their families to middle school math. I did not start out my career as a teacher. I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1991. At that time I worked in the Accounting Department of a local bank. In 1994, I returned to UNLV and earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in K-8 Education, with a concentration in Mathematics. In 1998, I again returned to school earning a Masters in Education Administration from University of Phoenix.

I began my teaching career in the Clark County School District, teaching in 3 different elementary schools. In 2002, I left the Clark County School District and began working in Charter School. At Andre Agassi, I taught third grade for 1 year. I then moved on to Odyssey Charter School where I spent 1 year as a K-8 teacher, doing home visits weekly for up to 25 students. I then became a high school learning strategist for the next two years. In 2006, I left Odyssey Charter School with Dr. Malin and found a home at Innovations International Charter School. At Innovations, I fill the roles of Middle School Math Teacher, School Test Director, and 7-12 Grade Level Chair.

I am happily married to Frank Mazurkiewicz, who works with students in the after school program. I have three daughters (26, 24, and 17), one son (9), and one grandson (14 months).

This year seventh grade students will be studying pre-algebra and eighth grade students will be studying algebra. As you are aware from the parent meeting this summer, we have adopted new common core state standards in mathematics. Because of this, students will be working out of two math books. One book will remain at home and will be used for reviewing and preparing for state mandated tests. Students will be working out of these books on Fridays. The students content area book, Pre-Algebra or Algebra, will be used Monday through Friday. These books are available on-line, or your child can sign out a hard copy that must be brought with them to class each day.
