Mr. Mills will have 8th, 10th, 11th grades
For Ms. Mills for Science:
7th Grade will focus on Finishing up Earth’s structure and starting Earth’s Surface
9th Grade will focus on Cellular Organelles and Intro to Heredity
12th Grade will focus on Global warming, Radon and pollution
Proficiency Exam is March 5th. Your child should be on Study Island each night- no excuses. This will help them pass and keep them motivated.
Please ask them what topics they covered today in class. You can always go online and search Nevada Science High School Proficiency Exam. The site is http://nde.doe.nv.gov/Assessment_HSPE.htm from here you can choose to focus on any area.
It is a huge help when the students come to school each day after they have eaten breakfast and have paper and pen/pencil. They need to be ready to learn.
It will be assigned each week and due the next day. Just reviewing what did in class can help solidify in the brain what we are learning and helps retain information for testing time.
September 6 th Tuesday all students are taking the GMADE test. It is a Math test that will help us to find out weaknesses that your child may have that we can help them with. On September 8th Thursday the Reading test will be given.
So please keep these dates in mind
If you would like to donate anything- we will need plastic gloves, white paper, colored pencils, (empty rinsed out) 2 liter bottles, hand soap and paper towels for our sinks in the classroom.
Please, if at any time you have questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me at my email diane_mills@iicsn.org.
We are off to an amazing year already and I am so excited to spend this qaulity time with your child.
Would you like your children to be thinking scientifically more around the house?
Ask them some of these Questions as you look at various items in your home:
What is this made of?
How was it made?
How could it be improved?
Where did it come from?
Ask your children- What? When? Why? How?
Answering these types of questions gets all thinking a bit more and that is always a good thing
If students can walk in a classroom, sit right down and start reviewing the work from the class from the previous day it would make a HUGE difference. Daily review is the key to success. Also, Please have your child go through the test strategy power point- it will help.

We often take learning to new places and new spaces and there is nothing better than in the natural environment.
