Welcome back from your winter break. I am so excited about the semester this year and getting started on the music for our Spring Concert. The Spring Concert is set for May 3, 2011, for Elementary K thru 4th grades and May 10, 2011, for 5th thru 12th Grades. So mark your calendars for this big event; you really do not want to miss it.
Below are some of the things you can expect your student to be learning this year:
Learning to sing Music history Learning to read music
And the playing of some musical instruments for Jr. High classes only.
Grading
This year students will be studying the history of American Music starting with the Native American Indians and ending with Country Music, Latin pop, Hiphop and more.
5th thru 10B
The students at the end of each quarter will choose one aspect of the history just studies and write a paraphrase of that event.
There will be four (4) papers in all for the whole school year.
(50 points per paper)
Students will be responsible for keeping a notebook for music which will be kept in the music room.
They will take notes which will come from a workbook used in class. Each notebook will be checked for work done in class. If student chooses not to do the work, the students will receive a “0” for that day’s work. If student decides to make up work, they will receive ½ credit . If however student was absent the day of class the student will be given till the end of the week to get that week’s assignment done for a full grade, otherwise it will turn to a “0” as well. The students will also be responsible for creating a music vocabulary list that will be posted on the board. They will be tested on these words as well.
3rd thru 4th grade will be responsible for keeping a notebook for music which will be kept in the music room. Students will copy notes from white board and also create a music vocabulary list.
K thru 4th grade will also be graded on class participation in the learning of music for the Spring Concert.
