Art Room rules are the following: Always work hard. Always be kind. Always be polite.
It is unfortunate to report that there are students who are starting (or in some cases, continuing) to use inappropriate language and misuse materials. This will result in a zero for the day which will greatly lower the child's grade. The supply of paints that I have been purchasing myself have been dwindling because of students' bad choices to misuse them. Unfortunately, the rest of the children will not have these materials. This is a very sad situation. I have tried calling parents and left messages. Unsats have been sent and parents of these students should have received them. Hopefully, with help from parents the poor behavior will stop. I appreciate this.

The "Happy Times" contest will be drawn in pencil and painted. Rules for painting will be taught. Among these rules are "Give your paint brush a good hair day. Don't give your paint brush a bad hair day."

For the Nevada Housing Division "Where I Live" contest, students will learn about different styles of architecture and will draw using rulers and protractors. Older grades will learn to use the compass to create their houses thus making connections between art and math.

Grade 6 through high school students' artists' reports are due the week of October 10th. Students have been instructed to cite their sources if quoting word for word. The reports are one page if hand written and less (approx. 3/4 page) if typed. Two references should be included. Due to cancellations of art (ex. "Count Day") tenth graders' due date for reports will be extended.

High school and Global continue to work on individual art series. Students can participate in the calendar contest if they chose.

My philosophy is that all students can be successful in art class by having a "can do" attitude, following school rules and art room rules (always work hard, always be kind and always be polite) and directions. I am very excited about your children who all are so very talented. Hopefully, we will have winners at IICSN this year. Last year we had two students art selected for the art exhibit at the Venetian Hotel and Casino for the Nevada Housing Division contest!
