STEAM

alt-text

STEAM is an educational program developed to prepare students for college and career readiness skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

Using STEAM skills and interactions makes learning fun for the students as they explore, experiment, and work within groups to learn more about the world around them. Students participate in a rigorous curriculum with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics content areas while learning how to read and write using new informational vocabulary, note-taking, and understanding informational text.

Students learn the art of scientific observation through robotics, astronomy, cybersecurity, coding, aviation, aerospace, and much more through their exploration laboratory classes. This curriculum gives students the chance to explore various topics using hands-on investigative learning.

Finally, students are able to teach their parents about what they learn in their explorations and elective area classes in our quarterly parent engagement nights. The school and its families will share in the enjoyment of investigating and experimenting with focused STEAM based lessons on these assigned evenings four times a year.

The mission and vision of Innovations for STEAM education

Innovations International Charter School of Nevada’s mission is to provide a safe learning community, empowering responsible citizens for life. The intent of the mission statement is to show the school’s continued effort to create a safe learning environment and student empowerment as the central element for educating students for life. Since its inception, Innovations has focused its teaching and learning on preparing its at=risk students for careers where their expertise is valued and showcased while helping them to develop compassion, patience, and empathy for others they will encounter at any age. The school celebrates its diversity and continually seeks to place its students in positions where their dreams and aspirations can be met.

The academic vision for the school is to enhance student, family, staff, and community engagement in the fields of aviation and aerospace education for all students in grades K-12. By becoming a STEM accredited institution the integration of flight and aviation using manned and unmanned aircraft allows students to prepare for careers and/or further education at the university level using the STEM categories as pathways to feeling confident about critical thinking and problem solving needed in a future career path.

Innovations is seeking to become one of the first schools to integrate a full K-12 population of students in an aviation-based career path as a focal career path integrating and enhancing STEM education and standards. Students are immersed in science, technology, engineering and mathematics as core focal points of instruction. This can be seen through the master scheduling of STEM classes and STEM labs at all grade levels throughout the day. Incorporating STEM into the school’s squadrons of artificial intelligence, aviation, drones, robotics, and virtual reality assists students in using observation and questioning concepts that allow for critical thinking and problem solving needed in future career fields. Utilizing a hands-on, technology enhanced approach to instruction and learning provides students with a robust learning experience in areas that capitalize on curiosity, creativity, and exploration.
